Balances and Activities MS

Balances and Activities (B&A) is an independent Java based microservice that records all the financial and non-financial activities taking place in the core banking system that in turn helps the Temenos Pricing Engine (TPE) perform pricing calculations on the latest updated data. This microservice serves as the only source of account and transactional related information for Temenos Enterprise Pricing (TEP). Whenever a transaction is performed, TPE queries B&A for necessary account related information (for example, account balance or number of transactions in a period) depending on the pricing rule configured, which it then uses for further pricing calculations. It serves as data store for rule evaluations. Balances and Activities Microservice (B&A MS)consumes information from the events stream in two forms:

  • Real Time Events – The core banking system emits events as soon as the transactions are logged in it. TPE calculates pricing and emits events to be consumed by the core system and updates base transaction with pricing benefits.
  • Batch Based Updates – The transactions are logged and updated upon receiving files with the transaction details (in a specified JSON format) from the core system. This does not require near real time flow of events to the TPE.
  • Near Real Time Events

TEP uses the tracked information to determine charges and fees across all the financial products. The B&A MS consumes the activities of the account which, could be emitted as an event to be consumed by the TEP system. The TEP system adds the details of the activity and balance movements in its database.
